Championship Show 6th May 2007

Judge Miss Gill Lawless

I would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge their well run show and for the hospitality extended by them.
I would like to make a few general comments overall. I found all but two ridges correct hence I have not mentioned these in my individual comments, all temperaments were good.
Some young dogs in the earlier classes would have been placed higher had they not been so over weight, Ridgebacks need to be fit and athletic and be able to withstand a days work these young dogs could not have done this.
I was disappointed to find so many bitches with heavy coarse heads that were bordering on being doggy, for me a bitch should be feminine and instantly recognisable as a bitch from the front.
Movement still gives cause for concern, soft pasterns, lack of a well muscled second thigh and moving very close behind. I was looking for an athletic hound capable of endurance. Overall I was pleased with the quality of the entry especially in the junior bitch class.
